Body Perception or Reality?

This has been a week where men have really PISSed me The HELL OFF.
I mentioned to a guy friend that I’d seen a woman we both know about how she looked really thin but she looked good. He said other people thought she looked thin also. But she wasn’t thin she’s the weight she should be if not a little over the weight she should be. I was a little shocked by this. The conversation continued on & he then said words to the affect of people being obese & what was considered to be obese. So as we went back & forth as to what obese is, I stated that the person we were talking about I never considered to be even remotely close to being obese or for that matter even plus size or voluptuous. As we continued going back and forth with this, I decided to ask him if he considered me to be obese. He hemmed & hawed for a moment then said yes. 😡 I’ve  been called many things but No one has ever called me OBESE before. 🤮 So of course his thing was I was taking it the wrong way & thinking of the word obese as being something negative.
So he continued to justify what he was saying that People think when someone is obese they are sloppy, lazy, not clean etc. I said there are a lot of women that are obese but they don’t fit those criterias at all & they are considered to be obese. And that many of those same woman are beautiful the size they are. I also pointed out that I’ve always been a plus size female, so I understood what he was referring to of a person having too much weight on them can affect ones health. However,  that terminology of calling everyone 30 pounds “overweight” obese was rude. Especially when the word obese is so broad. That mediacal BMI doesn’t take into account nationality being a difference in weight & body structure. Therefore that medical terminology he was going by was wrong. This of course angered him. To him Nationality had nothing to do with anything & things are based on ones BMI only and that BMI was/is the same for everyone. His point being the medical terminology of obesity & being 30 pounds over weight applies to everyone based on their BMI and height. One can’t deny that too much weight puts a strain on ones body etc. etc. Therefore, I cant argue with him as to what defines obesity do to the medical definition of the word.
So I share with all the obese people who may read this post and in case you didn’t know that your are obese; here is the Medical terminology I took off the internet: Obesity has been more precisely defined by the National Institutes of Health (the NIH) as a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30 and above. (A BMI of 30 is about 30 pounds overweight.) The BMI, a key index for relating body weight to height, is a person’s weight in kilograms (kg) divided by their height in meters (m) squared.
It’s a shame we live in a society where some “man” decided there is one meter stick we are all judged by &  in turn we all trust that judgment.                                                              (c) Justnpc 2018

  1. It’s a shame we live in a world where people spend so much time judging others and thinking their 2 cents is so important.
